Had one of the specials. Churrasco and shrimp. I love chimichurri sauce and because the shrimp were on top of the Churrasco and smothered in garlic butter none came with the plate. A waiter was kind enough to bring so however. Fried yucca seemed a bit cold and old but the Maduros were very good. The sweet tea didn't taste like tea and actually tasted like an old dishrag had been left in the pitcher. Ordered Tres Leches to go. Got back to hotel and had the smallest jumble of burnt cake, some marshmallow textured whipped cream on top and no condensed milk in the bottom. Meat was good, cooked decently but not well enough for me to go back. I'll stick with Havana's!!

Our party of 8 thoroughly enjoyed our lunch here today. We were seated promptly. Garlic bread appeared as our drink order was taken. Food took a little long to come out but it was worth the wait. All 8 of us had something different from the menu but everyone was pleased. The lunch specials are an excellent deal. Will be back.

Was here a few days ago, and never fails to make me happy eating their food. They have wonderful lunch specials that are roughly $5.95 to $7.95, so check that out if you go because it's really, really good food and a lot of it! For example boneless skinless grilled chicken breast with black beans, yellow rice, plantains and a drink. Service is pretty good too. They leave you alone so if you want to spend time just chatting for a couple of hours, which is usually what I like to do, they let you. However the day I was there I asked the waitress for water and had to remind her and when I asked her for extra limes, she never brought them. I would have given her three stars, but the food makes up for the 4 stars.

This is a great little restaurant and it is in a very cute part of town. We got the sampler platter and the chicken and pork were amazing - flavorful and not too dry. The fried plantains were delicious too as well as the stuffed potatoes.

We've always had wonderful food and service here! Tonight the snapper was to die for. The pork was so flavorful. Beans and rice are beautifully cooked. Thanks!!

I have mixed reviews for this one. Beginning with our first impression. When we walked in, the place looked a little run down, outdated and not super clean. It also, had a very distinctive unpleasant smell. Had it only been the hubs and myself, we would have left, immediately. But, we were with a group and were all starving so we stayed. I didn't have any good expectations for the food. But once it arrived (and my nose adjusted to the stench) I was happy we stayed. The food was terrific. I ordered the Lechon Asado - it was so good. Probably the best I've had anywhere - hubs ordered the Ropa Vieja, a standard for him at Cuban Restaurants as it's one of his favorite dishes. And while he enjoyed his dish, he kept eying mine and gladly polished off my plate when I was full. One of our friends ordered the Camarones Al Ajilb, the shrimp were huge and cooked perfectly and the sauce was beyond good. Also noteworthy are the rice and beans - basic white rice was good just on it's own and the beans were seasoned really well. Service was a little slow especially for the time of day and number of patrons vs. staff. When we have a craving for Cuban, we might venture back - the food was good, just not sure about the smell - hopefully it was temporary, that or maybe my sniffer was having a sensitive day :)

Service 1 star Food 2.5 stars Growing up in South Florida and spending tons of Sunday evenings as a kid at Versailles in Miami or gobbling up my Abuelas malanga fritters, I was hoping to find a great Cuban restaurant on the North end of South Florida. Don Ramon's is very close to my house so when my craving for tostones and pork slathered with onions was more then I could handle I knew it was time to try this place out. My husband has been coming here for years and loves it but this past Saturday was my first visit. Arrived around 7 and it was packed but we got a table right away. The restaurant is very dark and all the windows were closed so I was shocked at how warm the place was. I think my legs were stuck to the booth seat by the time we left. Our waitress did not greet us for about 7-10 minutes. By that time we knew what we wanted to order and were in desperate need of something cold to drink in this sauna like venue. We started with the tostones and trio tower of appetizers. The tostones were good just not at all what I'm used to. They were made into little cups with a shrimp in each. I think they would have been amazing except they do not come with the mojito garlic dipping sauce. That's almost my favorite part :( I asked the waitress if she could bring some out but what we got was more like melted butter with a hint of garlic... not what I'm used to but I tried to dig it. Unfortunately we never got to try the sampler/trio appetizer because our waitress forgot to put the order in and our main dishes were on the way. I had the pork chunks, boiled yuca and black beans and rice, my hubs had the steak milanese with plantains and our dining buddy had the boiled chicken. The boys enjoyed their meal but I have to say it was mediocre. I was really disappointed with the amount of pork chucks I received..... 4... usually I get 6-8 and can make 2 meals out of my dinner choice but no left overs for me. Our waitress was missing most the night and we had to grab any employee working to refill our drinks, ask about bread and sides and even to get our check after we had finished our meal ages ago. I will probably give them a second try and order something different and hopefully get a better server. The bill was extremely reasonable though at only $55.00 for 3 people, one appitizer, 3 main dishes and one cocktail. I guess you get what you pay for.

Don Ramon's Cuban Restsurant on Military Trail in West Palm Beach is definitely the best Cuban Cuisine in town. The food is authentic and always served hot and tasty. Still run by the original owner. Staff is experienced and very attentive. Very accommodating, we've celebrated many Birthdays and special dates and never been disappointed. If you go must try the (chicharitas) fried plantain chips with mojo. The Moros rice and beans made together are cooked just right fluffy and tasty and the pork chunks come in a personal size pot. The Chicken Juliana is one of their specialties as is the churrasco steak and Milanesa. I've enjoyed every meal. Desert you must try the Flan it's a custard like desert. Don't forget the Cuban Coffee.

I was craving a Cuban sandwich and it was met today by this restaurant. The place was bigger than I thought it would be and very clean with lots of parking too. The sandwich included fries and I got a side of black beans and rice. It was very good and enough to take home for leftovers. Plus, the buy one, get one Enjoy the City coupon I had came in handy for some savings. I can imagine this place being busy for dinner and during the weekends. The decor could be upgraded a little to enhance the Havana vibe, but I was happy with the food and service.

The food is the only good thing goin on here, and it's good at best. There's much better Cuban food a few miles east of here. The decor is in dire need of updating, as well as the exterior of the building this place hasn't had any kind of updating in 20 years when it went from being a po folks to don Ramon's. And in closing, the staff have no idea how to treat a customer, and the management knows nothing about his to run a business. To stand at the counter and argue with a customer and refuse to honor an offer is absurd. I walked out and left my food. So they lost a sale, have 50 bucks worth of food to throw away, and they've lost a regular customer that dines twice a month. Pretty pathetic.

I couldn't take a work trip to Florida without having Cuban food, Don Ramon's had good reviews, so we decided to give it a try. Well worth it! I had the pollo a la juliana (chicken), black beans and plaintains. Everything was excellent and plantains are going to be my new favorite food. After dinner I had the cafe con leche (coffee). Strong with a creamy froth, very good. The only downside is the service is SLOW. We were seated quickly, but then forgotten and had to track down our waiter. Also, I noticed that every other table had cocktails, but we never saw a drink menu. (Unusual as alcohol has a big profit margin.) They do have mixed drinks, you just have to ask. We will go back and try other menu items.

Been coming here for years! Don't mind the outside the in side is nice and the food is delicious! Lunch specials - steak for 9$ with rice beans and plantains! The baby Paloma is my favorite. Fried yuca with mojo is the bomb! Must try!

Well being from Miami , I am used to good Cuban restaurants with poor service but awesome food. Sone have good service like Versailles and Latin American. This restaurant is the same but with better service. Food good and tasty. They forgot our croquetas that we ordered so go figure had to give them 3 stars.

I love Don Ramon. Everytime I've ever been, the food was great. I usually get the pollo a la juliana. I also always get some cafe cubano before heading out. They give you an option for cafe with sugar or without. Both ways are delish, but when I want to be naughty I get it with.

Another Friday night, another night no one wants to cook, so another check of the Enjoy the City coupon book for some ideas on what's for dinner, and what deals can be had. We settle on Don Ramon for some Cuban food, but it being Friday night has us a little leery about heading into downtown on Clematis Street, and waiting an hour to eat -- it was already 8pm as it was, and as luck would have it, I was so busy with work that afternoon that I skipped lunch entirely. Had my left hand been marinating in mojo all day, I might have just cooked it up on the grill myself, but it hadn't been, so we were weighing our options, when I noticed that the coupon was good at 3 of their locations, and the one on Military just south of Southern Blvd was only a little further ride for us. So into the family truckster we pile, with our fingers crossed that they weren't so busy, and we'd be eating soon. I'd noticed the location before in my travels, but never really paid too much attention to it, because we were long time devotees of the Cuban restaurant east of 95 on Belvedere known as Havana. Great place, but invariably a wait longer than 90 minutes on weekend nights, so off the table tonight. We pull into the lot, and notice about 20 cars in the lot, and no gaggle of people congregated around the door, either. We walked in, were greeted, and ushered to a table in one fluid gait from the car all the way in. Our waiter was right over, suggested some cocktails -- their mojitos are well known -- and took our drink orders. The wife got a sangria, which she described as little more that house wine, triple sec and Libbey's fruit cocktail (little squares of peaches, pears, and grapes) in a glass. Not the best, but drinkable. I had done my drinking for the week during the college football championship game earlier this week, so just iced tea for me ..... Same for my daughter. For appetizers, I can never resist the papa rellenas or ham croquettes, so we each had one of each, with Cholula hot sauce liberally represented. They were delicious -- I could have easily ordered 2 or 3 more and just made that my dinner, but I thought better of it. Trying to lose some weight this year, I opted for that other white meat, lechon asado, instead of my usual churrasco or palomilla steak when it comes to Cuban cuisine. My daughter decided to make me suffer, by ordering, what else, the palomilla, and eat it right in front of me. My wife, who never orders beef, also decided to torture me, and ordered the churrasco! We were served in about 10 or 15 minutes, and everything was wonderful. My pork was juicy and delicious. The girls each had pity on me, and let me try bites of their steaks -- heavenly! Our tea glasses never made it to half empty before they were refilled, and empty dishes were cleared almost immediately. Because I had skipped lunch, I cleaned my plate. The girls both needed boxes, and each box was filled to the top. Our waiter suggested dessert, but there was just no way! With our coupon, the bill for the 3 of us was less than $50 -- a great deal. We'll be back for sure, and hopefully we're smart enough to save room for some guayaba y queso or tres leches, and a cortadito! Only reason I didn't go the full 5 stars is for the sangria, and the decor inside is lacking a little Havanesque punch. If they dressed it up some, with the food and the service they've already got, they'd be right there.

I am new to Cuban Cuisine but have had lunch at Don Ramon's twice. Last time I had the Cuban Sampler Platter which consisted of steak, chicken and pork, served with rice, beans and plantains. It is enough for a family of four, it was so good I ate a big chunk of it. Good thing it was my day off.

This is my go-to spot for Cuban dining when I'm in town. I have a strong feeling there may be better places around, but this one is very accessible from the airport and the prices are just right for my budget. I've had great meals and mediocre meals. They do have an outstanding, friendly staff, however.

There is never anything negative to say about Don Ramon's. We have been to the Military Trail location on numerous occasions and have always had a great meal and great service. Saturday was no different. We did notice that the menu is "new", and the interior has been remodeled. By "new" menu, it appears that they have shortened it up a tiny bit and it is way easier to navigate. The food is wonderful as always, from the warm, buttered cuban bread they bring when you first order, right thru to the rice pudding and flan they offer for dessert. My wife and I tried their cuban combo special which consisted of steak, chicken and pork, served with rice, beans and plantains. Absolutely wonderful, although the portion was so huge we brought half of it home for a late night snack! My daughter had the white fish battered in plantain chips. I have had this before and it too was incredible! Moist fish covered in tiny plantain chips and lightly fried. WOW! This dish is a "must try" in my opinion. If you are looking for great cuban food at a reasonable price, Don Ramon's is the right choice!

Arrived with the family ( party of 7) they sat us down at a table with 6 chairs. After getting my own chair, waited 20 minutes and no one came to the table. They were not busy so there was no reason for the terrible service. On the way out I told a waitress that we have been ignored for so long and responded, you have to tell the person who sat you down... So we went to another restaurant.

The Cafe Cubano was flawlessly executed. Perfect. The Cuban coffee I'd been dreaming of having since my plane landed back in South Florida. Everything else was just okay. I had half a Cuban sandwich and some chicken soup. All on the mediocre side - and - believe me - I know I said I just got off a plane... but I'm a native Floridian and I know my Cuban food. My companion ordered a chicken dish (I forget which one) that was flavorful, but dry and overcooked. The decor is lacking and I found myself longing for better ambiance. Still, again, the coffee was perfect and I was happy.

I've been eating at Don Ramon's for years because the food is wonderful. I've never been disappointed from the Lamb Creole, to the Lechon with their excellent rice and black beans. Start with perfect buttery, garlicky warm slices of bread. Try the Tamal smothered with pork and onions with a hint of lime. Have a Mojito, I had my first here. Fish and shrimp. Fresh and delicious. Which brings me to why I'm reviewing today. Yesterday, Father's Day my wife and I decided to try the Paella for 2. Wow! We were blown away. The rice had been simmered in seafood and chicken. They need an hour to prepare it, so call ahead. It has lobster, shrimp. clams, mussels, squid, fish and chicken. Que Rico! I would recommend this for special occasions if you're a seafood lover. Ambience is family. Service is courteous, friendly, sometimes spotty. The food is fabulous. Don't forget to have Tres Leches or Flan with your Cafe Cubano!

  • Mike D.

The food is inconsistent and is only good about half the time. I work on Clematis and they have a restaurant nearby, so unfortunately, I order from there because I want a good meal with rice. The orders come out over cooked, under cooked and wrong dishes. One of these days, I will learn to stop eating there. I always forget how terrible the food is until i get it

Some of the best Cuban food we have ever had! This place doesn't look like much from the outside, but don't let that fool you. The inside is clean and nicely decorated. The food is wonderful and the service is friendly. We did have a bit of a language barrier with our waiter but nothing too inconvenient. We got two early-bird specials which gave us plenty of food at a great price. I'm so happy we found this place.

For my birthday in May, we all made the effort to drive to the Don Ramon on Military Trail and it was EXCELLENT. We have a closer location here in Wellington but I had previously heard it wasn't as good (I found out 6 days later when we decided to try that location for my husband's birthday that was correct. Stick with the Military Trail location). The appetizer tower was amazing- huge, great variety, and everything on it was tasty. There were 9 of us and no one complained that they didn't have enough. All of our entrees were correct, cooked properly, and tasty. My husband had churrasco. I had a sampler platter which was amazing. My brothers had a chicken cutlet dish that looked really great. My 5 year old had fish tenders and black beans and rice, which she loved. All of our meals came with a choice of our side dishes. Between us all, we had black beans, rice, yellow rice, papas fritas, platanos maduros. Everything was wonderful. Our server was very nice, he and the rest of the staff made sure our drinks were never emply, and my mom and stepfather enjoyed 2 margaritas each. At the end of the meal, they presented me with a flan (with a candle of course!) and sang "Happy Birthday." And the flan was quite tasty as well. We will be back to THIS location and this location only. :)

I would have previously given this 4 stars, but last time I went the food was still really good but not as amazing as before. The restaurant is nice, clean, and spacious. I have only gone for lunch and get seated quickly. The food is consistently good everytime, just not great. Plus it irks me to pay more than $1 for papa rellena....you can get that at any local cuban bakery in the bigger latin population cities in Florida for super cheap. Arroz Morro is a must have here...skip the cuban sandwich, get the yucca boiled but ask for the mojo sauce if they forget to give it to you. Oh and get the lechon...I didn't get it last time my companion did and I was super jealous the whole time so maybe I need to go back and bump up the review to 4 stars if I get the lechon. Oh and skip the caldo de gallego.....very disappointing.

Great prices, portions and food! It has really great carne asado that has crispy edges. The black beans are amazing. They are so tender and flavorful without the watered downed taste. The sweet plantains are also perfectly made where they have crispy black sweet edges rather than mushy oily lumps. You get protein, black beans, rice, and plantains for $9 for dinner. You can't beat that! The food comes out fast too. The Sunday early bird special menu is the best value. You get soup or salad, entree, coffee, and desert for $9. It's a place where the locals go. The decor isn't fancy but it's comfortable. Try the appetizer sampler tower too! It's really a great treat.

Suggested by the gals at Jet Aviation. Quickly seated at 1530 on a Sunday afternoon. Bathrooms are very clean. I think this can say a lot about a restaurant. Menu was great. We were in time for the lunchtime prices. I had the fried roasted pork. Succulent pork bits are juicy and accompanied by yummy onions. Yellow rice was excellent. I smothered it with my red beans. The plantains were sweet and sticky. So good.

Thanks!!

Living in New England, I don't get authentic Cuban very often so this was a real treat. Loved the fish coated in plantain chips--excellent. Will be back when am in area again!

So good.
